Metropolitan Mosquito Control District
Other · MN
The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) is a special-purpose Minnesota district created by the state legislature in 1958 to control mosquitoes, and later biting gnats (from 1984) and ticks (from 1989), across the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington counties. It is governed by a commission of county commissioners appointed by their respective county boards (18 members total), assisted by a technical advisory board that independently reviews the district's field control programs, and is funded primarily by property taxes.
